This project aims to address the requirement for a single point of access to a comprehensive set of Grid and collaboration services in a VRE.

• International Workshop on Virtual Research Environments and Collaborative Work Environments to be held 23rd - 24th May, Edinburgh. The aim of this workshop is to bring together researchers working in the areas of Virtual Research Environments (VREs) and Collaborative Work Environments (CWEs).
• e-Science All Hands Meeting 2006 to be held 18th - 21st September, Nottingham. This year the All Hands Meeting's theme is Achievements, Challenges and New Opportunities.
• NeSC Portals and Portlets 2006 Workshop to be held 17th - 18th July, Edinburgh. This workshop highlights portal development and deployment activities in the UK.
• The NCeSS 2006 International Conference to be held 28th June. Includes, an e-Collaboration Workshop - Access Grid, Portals and other Virtual Research Environments for the Social Sciences.
• The new official Sakai VRE Demonstrator Portal is now available.
• Workshop to be held at the Imperial College London on 30th March, titled Semantic Interoperability for e-Research in the Sciences, Arts and Humanities.
• The annual JISC Conference in Birmingham is to commence on the 14th March 2006.
• The NB Chat and Video System developed by the DSG is now available for download. This system allows users to collaborate through chat and video conferencing sessions with multiple participants.

The main benefit of this VRE will be the ease of access to powerful distributed Grid and collaboration tools consistently from one interface. The success of this strategy will be determined by the VRE's level of use. The ease of deployment and integration of tools will also be assessed.
